OASIS, a Laval-based mobile intervention unit, expressed great satisfaction over a $5,000 grant received from the Simple Plan Foundation.

The Laval-North Shore members of punk-rock group Simple Plan, Sébastien Lefebvre, Chuck Comeau, and Pierre Bouvier did not forget the needs of the young people of their places of origin.

OASIS is a mobile intervention service that assists young people ages 12 to 29 with a listening ear, concrete help, and referral information for prevention (of various problems) and protection of their rights.

"The money will come in very handy for the continuation of some projects and the completion of others," says OASIS Coordinator Guy Boivert. "We can use part of the money for maintenance of our caravan, to hire additional human resources, and for improving our Rights Guide, in which we are now including a particular section dealing with consequences linked to associating with street gangs. Mr. Boisvert also has in mind to set up a series of workshops to be given in Laval schools.

Peggy Béland, development agent at OASIS, jumped at the opportunity (of obtaining funding) when she first heard of the Simple Plan Foundation. "The Foundation's mission closely resembles that of our organization," she told Courrier Laval.

"It's truly wonderful to see that the group wants to give back to the community, to invest in our young people," added Guy Boisvert.

"Our challenge is to reach out and help groups who can make a difference in their communities, organizations which give time to young people to give them a chance to come out of their problems," concluded a committed and convinced Chuck Comeau.
